Every year thousands of pilgrims come to L’Aquila to celebrate the indulgence that Pope Francis has called the “great Pardon”.

In 1294 in the capital of Abruzzo, thanks to Celestine V and his intuition, with the Perdonanza people began to experience the jubilee grace of mercy. It was right in L’Aquila, in the Basilica of S. Maria di Collemaggio, Temple of Mercy and Forgiveness, that journey of faith and popular spirituality began, which led to the celebration of the first jubilee in the history of 1300.

In the Basilica of Santa Maria di Collemaggio, a holy place of welcome and a privileged space for generating hope, even today one can obtain the plenary indulgence of the Pardon.
