Arrival by car

From Rome

To reach the city of L’Aquila by car starting from Rome, follow these directions:

  • Start on the A24 motorway east from Rome.
  • Continue on the A24 for approximately 115 kilometres and exit at the L’Aquila Est toll booth.
From the North

If you are coming from the northern regions, follow these directions to L’Aquila:

  • Take the A14 or A24 motorway, depending on your starting point.
  • Head towards Abruzzo, following the signs for L’Aquila.
  • Exit at the L’Aquila Est toll booth.
From the South

For travellers coming from the southern areas, it is possible to reach L’Aquila by car by taking the A25 motorway or the SS17, depending on the specific departure point following the signs for L’Aquila.

Arrival by bus

Rome – L’Aquila

From Rome’s Tiburtina Station , you have several options for traveling to L’Aquila. The TUA bus service allows you to reach L’Aquila in about 1 hour and a half. Tickets to L’Aquila can be purchased both online and at the TUA bus ticket office located inside the station.

Gaspari Bus offers another reliable option, departing from Tiburtina station and Ciampino and Fiumicino airports. As with TUA, tickets to L’Aquila with Gaspari Bus can be purchased online or at the station ticket offices. The journey time from Rome Tiburtina to L’Aquila is approximately 1 hour and a half.

Flixbus also departs from Tiburtina Station and Ciampino and Fiumicino Airports. Likewise, tickets to L’Aquila are available online or at the station ticket office, with a travel time of approximately 1 hour and a half.

The bus stop will be “Aminternum”, from there you can reach the Basilica by taxi or by AMA urban public transport .

Pescara – L’Aquila

For those traveling from Pescara to L’Aquila, the TUA line is the recommended choice. Departing from Pescara Central Station , this service will take you to L’Aquila in about 1.5 hours. Tickets can be purchased online or at the TUA Bus ticket office inside the station.

The bus stop is at the ” Terminal Lorenzo Natali “, a few meters from the Basilica of Santa Maria di Collemaggio.

Arrival by plane

From Fiumicino (FCO) / Ciampino (CIA)

Both Flixbus and Gaspari Bus offer services from Ciampino and Fiumicino Airports to L’Aquila. Flixbus takes approximately 2 hours for the journey, and Gaspari Bus operates similar timetables from Ciampino and Fiumicino Airport to L’Aquila.

The bus stop will be ” Aminternum “, from there you can reach the Basilica by taxi or by AMA urban public transport .

From Pescara Airport (PSR), the Pescara Airlink Bus provides a quick 15-minute connection to Pescara Central Station. From there, travellers can then board the TUA bus to L’Aquila, with a travel time of approximately 1.5 hours. Tickets for the route from the airport to L’Aquila can be purchased online or at the TUA bus station ticket office.

The bus stop will be “Terminal Lorenzo Natali”, a few meters from the Basilica of Santa Maria di Collemaggio.
